Woensel-West is now a colourful, lively and creative neighbourhood. But it hasn’t always been that way.
In the past, Woensel-West was known as a so-called ‘troubled neighbourhood’. For years, crime, drug-related nuisance and heavy prostitution dominated the streetscape. The quality of life was under pressure and the neighbourhood had a negative image.
A remarkable social transformation
In recent years, Woensel-West has undergone an impressive transformation. Thanks in part to the efforts of the Sint Trudo Housing Association, the neighbourhood has gradually been transformed into a place where people enjoy living, working and doing business.
An important part of this approach was the so-called placement projectA key part of this approach was the so-called ‘settlement project’. This gave young residents and creative entrepreneurs the opportunity to set up in the neighbourhood on favourable terms. By investing in people, talent and diversity, a new dynamic emerged in the neighbourhood.
Today, Woensel-West is a neighbourhood full of character, with a diverse mix of residents, local initiatives and creative energy.
